It’s another hot summer in Ohio. The A/C is running pretty much non-stop on some days, and it’s driving your energy bills through the roof. Isn’t there a way to keep your house cool and comfortable without spending a fortune on air conditioning? There is. It might be time for you to invest in solar shades.
Solar shades cover your windows and keep the harsh sunlight out. As such, they also reduce the heat in your home, as well as blocking out harmful UV rays. As the sunlight and heat are reduced, your need for A/C decreases, as do your energy bills. However, these shades don’t just put your whole house in the dark. They’re designed to let some natural light in, while still blocking out the heat.
The most basic shades are thin and translucent. They block out some of the light, but not all, and you can still see through them a little bit. However, if you want to invest a little more, you can get solar screens instead. These don’t obstruct your view of the outside at all, but merely add a slight tint to your windows that still blocks out sunlight and reduces heat and energy use.
Another advantage to solar shades is the effect they have on your home’s furniture. Continued exposure to direct sunlight can cause upholstery to fade over time. After awhile, they can become damaged and need to be replaced. But a solar shade will reduce your furniture’s exposure to direct sunlight, causing it to look better and last longer, saving you the money of having to replace it. Furthermore, they reduce the glare that comes through when the sun is directly in the window and the subsequent discomfort and harm that can cause to the eyes.
Solar shades are relatively inexpensive and are a great way to help you save money and energy for years to come.
