Which HVAC Brand Should You Buy?

By Angie Lyczkowski | Published: August 29, 2017

Which HVAC Brand Should You Buy?Having a reliable, efficient HVAC system is vital to keep your home comfortable and your heating and cooling costs reasonable. If your equipment will need replacement soon, it’s wise to compare different brands. Here’s some general information to help you get familiar with some of the best HVAC brands based on reliability, efficiency and value:

Lennox

The Lennox brand is one that’s synonymous with energy efficiency, and the company strives to improve the efficiency of their equipment offerings year after year. Their products have some of the highest seasonal energy efficiency ratio ratings (SEER) in the industry, and provide efficiency levels that top 98 percent. Lennox is also known for their dual-fuel heating systems, which can help lower your operating costs over the winter months. Lennox products can cost more than other brands on the market, but the lifetime energy savings you’ll gain can help offset the higher price tag.

American Standard

American Standard has been in business for over 130 years, and its heating and cooling equipment is known for its reliability. Compared to many other brands, their products tend to have fewer breakdowns that require costly repairs. American Standard’s parent company, Ingersoll Rand, also manufacturers another well-known equipment line, Trane, and each of their HVAC brands feature a wide range of heating and cooling products to suit different needs and budgets. You can expect to pay a premium for either brand, but they also provide good value.

Goodman

The Goodman brand isn’t as well known as Lennox or American Standard, but their products are solidly built. The company also manufacturers higher-end Amana products, and their Goodman line shares many of the same internal components. Goodman also provides reliable warranty coverage, so they can be an affordable option for homeowners who are looking for basic yet durable equipment at a lower price point.

Beyond a brand name, accurate sizing and the quality of installation workmanship play a critical role HVAC system performance, so your choice of contractor matters.
