Your central air conditioning system has probably worked its last day this year, now that fall and winter are arriving. If you have decided this was your system’s final cooling system, don’t wait till next spring to schedule an A/C replacement. You’ll be surprised at the savings that are possible when purchasing an air conditioner in the off-season.
Reasons to Replace in Fall
Here are some great reasons to plan an A/C replacement this fall:
- If you arrange for a cooling system replacement before winter arrives, you’ll probably have an easier time getting an appointment. And it definitely will be easier than arranging an installation next spring when everybody is calling for A/C replacement, repair, or maintenance.
- Prices on central air conditioners likely will be lower now than if you wait. Demand will be higher later, plus the new stock of A/Cs probably will be more expensive than they are now.
- An A/C replacement now, when you have a bit of time, will offer the opportunity to do some comparative shopping and research before making a decision. That’s preferable to waiting till the first hot day next April or May, and realizing, you need a new A/C.
Things to Keep in Mind
No matter when you schedule an air conditioner replacement, keep the following advice in mind:
- Choose a reputable, trustworthy HVAC contractor to handle the installation. They should take the time to properly size your new system, since both under- and over-sized systems can reduce comfort and energy efficiency.
- Carefully consider what level of energy-efficiency is right for your home and budget. Often it makes more sense to spend more at the outset for an A/C that operates more inexpensively than to try to save money on the purchase. Your climate and level of use also will play a role in this decision.
- Consider various add-on features that will enhance comfort and energy efficiency in your new A/C. Your HVAC contractor should be glad to explain the ins and outs of advanced features.
