Pretty soon, you won’t be able to walk down the street without hearing about a July Fourth celebration – and we wouldn’t have it any other way! The problem, of course, is that it’s right in the middle of the summer, which means that overheating and dehydration are a concern.
Here are a few ways that you can protect yourself and your guests from the heat:
Drink Plenty of Water
Everyone knows that drinking lots of water is great for your health, but it’s even more important when it’s hot outside. The recommended daily intake of water is eight 8-ounces. In the summer, though, you may want to increase that a bit to ensure that you stay hydrated.
Call an HVAC Professional
As a general role, your air conditioning system should be serviced once per year to ensure that it’s operating at peak performance and efficiency. Calling a technician will prolong its operational lifespan and keep you and any guests in your home cool.
Shut the Blinds
An easy way to keep the sun out of your home, which will lower its overall temperature, is to shut your blinds whenever possible. For warmer rooms, you may want to consider the installation of blackout curtains or shades.
Cook Outside
If you’re planning on having a party for the Fourth of July, there’s a good chance that you’ll be grilling outside. But, even if you’re not, grilling outside can help your home stay cool. That’s because you won’t be using the oven or stove indoors, which can heat up your home quite quickly.
Install a Misting System
If you find that your entertaining guests, especially on a regular basis, then you may want to consider the installation of a misting system. This is also great for anyone who prefers to relax outside, but is concerned with getting too hot.
