The characteristics of high-end air conditioners make them worthy of consideration when you’re considering a new cooling system. Since cooling systems last for years, the comfort, dependability and value that they bring is just as important as the price.
Top-of-the line systems excel at:
Lowering energy bills.
Although high efficiency air conditioners do cost more, they will pay for themselves in lower cooling bills. A few years ago the minimum energy efficiency standard for air conditioners and heat pumps to 13 and 14 SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio). Currently, a high efficiency cooling system must have a SEER of 15, which means that it runs 20 percent more efficiently than one that has a SEER of 13.
Increasing comfort.
The components that raise the SEER rating of air conditioners and heat pumps bring you more comfort. Systems that use variable-speed compressors run more quietly and tend to last longer. Instead of running on high until your home has cooled down, the compressor runs at slower speeds for longer periods, which cuts its energy use and noise.
Some high-end air conditioners use variable-speed technology in the blower compartment or air handler. The fan adjusts its running speed based on the amount of cooling needed. The fan is quieter and distributes the conditioned air more evenly, eliminating hot spots indoors.
Variable-speed systems are also ideal for pairing with a zoning system, which is a way to individualize the temperatures throughout your home. Each zone has its own thermostat that is set at levels appropriate for occupancy and personal preferences.
Offering better resale performance.
Although it may not be the deciding factor, a high-end air conditioner may make it easier for you to sell your home in the future. Historically home buyers have preferred to buy homes with higher energy efficiency, and the millennial generation is demonstrating a clear preference for innovative and efficient appliances.
It may cost more, but a high-end air conditioner will pay for itself immediately in lower energy bills and greater comfort. For more information, contact Energy 1 Heating & Air Conditioning, serving homeowners in the Lorain-area.
