January marks National High-Tech Month. What better way to celebrate than to upgrade some of your old appliances, starting with your HVAC system? Here are 7 high-tech HVAC products to consider for your home.
Smart thermostat.
A Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat can be accessed from anywhere via your smartphone. Turn your HVAC system on before you get home, so it’s comfortable when you arrive. It also checks local weather forecasts for your area and adjusts accordingly.
Motion-activated zoning system.
Motion sensors sense when someone enters a room and activates your HVAC system automatically. It also shuts it off when they leave, keeping you comfortable without wasting energy heating or cooling an empty room.
Whole-house humidifier.
As your HVAC system conditions the air, it also dehumidifies it. Which is great in the hot, wet summer, but problematic in the cold, dry winter. A humidistat lets you set your ideal humidity level, and your whole-house humidifier adds small amounts of water to your air accordingly, keeping your humidity constant and comfortable year round.
IAQ monitor.
An indoor air quality monitor checks your air for carbon monixide leaks, harmful chemicals, excess carbon dioxide, and a host of other harmful contaminants, to keep you safe and help you breathe easier.
Air purifier.
Once you’ve identified the contaminants in your home, a dedicated air purifier can help you get rid of them. Strong enough for a high efficiency air filter that would damage your regular HVAC system, air purifiers can eliminate dust, cigarette smoke, aerosol particles, viruses, bacteria, and more.
Dual-source heat pump.
Heat pumps save energy in mild temperatures, but in freezing weather, they stop working. A dual-source system works as a heat pump down to a specified temperature, then switches automatically to gas furnace heating, so you can continue to stay warm in any weather.
Geothermal heat pump.
Another great energy saver, geothermal heating uses buried pipes to harness the near-constant temperature beneath the ground as heating or cooling for your home, saving energy.
