Your HVAC system was designed to deliver comfort to the maximum of its specifications, but good looks were never part of the package. Most of us don’t even see the various parts of our HVAC, but some homeowners would like those parts to be a little less intrusive. If you’re one of them, read on about integrating your HVAC elements in interior design.
Thermostats
When talking about working HVAC elements into interior design we likely mean making those elements less obvious. For instance, take that thermostat installed right smack dab in the middle of the hall wall that you’d love to turn into a mini gallery of photos or artwork. While you need the thermostat to be there, you can tone it down visually.
Try framing it, and then hang your artwork around it in interesting patterns that make the thermostat recede to the eye. Some of the new Wi-fi thermostats come in sleek copper or steel designs, so check them out to integrate this integral HVAC elements in interior design.
Vents and Grilles
Your vents and grilles are probably not the most attractive features of your walls, ceilings or floors. While you can’t cover them up without impeding airflow, you can sometimes arrange furniture, magazine holders and the like to where the grilles are less obvious. You can also look into replacing the grim old grilles with some attractive decorative designs.
HVAC Cabinet
If your HVAC system is in a cabinet in the main part of the house rather than hidden away in the basement or attic, you can try decorating that drab cabinet, either with a new coat of paint or a more aesthetically pleasing door.
Replacing Your System
Finally, if you’re replacing your old system, check out ductless mini splits. Consisting of one to four air handlers and an outdoor compressor, they’re versatile in any interior design. Air handlers are compact and can be mounted on walls, ceiling, shelves or floors.
