Is It Possible to Increase the Value of Your HVAC Unit?

By Angie Lyczkowski | Published: July 14, 2020

We’re always concerned about ensuring our appliances last as long as possible. For most appliances, following the guidelines in your owner’s manual will keep them going for a reasonable number of years. However, when it comes to your HVAC system, good maintenance can ensure you get maximum HVAC value for many years.

Maintaining your HVAC system is key for maximizing energy efficiency and preventing breakdowns. Maintenance will also ensure that your HVAC unit lasts much longer, so you don’t have to replace it for a while. What’s more, a good maintenance record can be a great selling point if you ever decide to put your home on the market. Interested in how to maintain your HVAC unit’s value? Read on.

The Importance of Maintenance for HVAC Value

Scheduling maintenance with a licensed HVAC technician twice yearly (in spring and fall) is key for maintaining your HVAC unit’s value. Without maintenance, parts that are wearing out may not be caught in time and could break down, resulting in more expensive repairs than if they’d been fixed early on.

Good maintenance helps to keep the system clean so that it runs cooler and without friction and so the parts last longer. Plus, a well-maintained system also runs more efficiently. With better airflow, the system doesn’t have to work as hard. That’s how you save money on utility bills.

Homeowners can help keep the HVAC system well maintained by changing the air filter frequently. A dirty filter slows down airflow, causing the system to labor to cool or heat. Furthermore, the HVAC can’t dehumidify the air as effectively in summer with a dirty air filter.

Install a New HVAC Unit or Maintain the Old One?

If you’re thinking about installing a new HVAC system to maintain your home’s HVAC value, that’s a costly investment to make. As long as you’re going to be in the house a few years, the investment makes sense. However, if you’re in a hurry to sell, your best bet may be to maintain the old system as well as you can.
