A mobile home furnace, just like other furnaces, has a filter. You need to change your mobile home furnace filters regularly to keep your furnace running correctly and promote proper airflow. Here’s more on how to handle these filters.
How Are Mobile Home Furnace Filters Different?
The electric or gas furnaces that mobile homes use are designed to work with smaller ductwork. The filters are usually found at the metal grill, supplying ventilation to the heating system. That’s slightly different from conventional furnaces, which typically feature a filter compartment that holds the filters between the ductwork and the furnace.
Changing Mobile Home Furnace Filters
You’ll typically need to change the filters after one to three months. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
During peak winter use, your furnace will run more often, and the filter will trap more contaminants as more air moves through it. Therefore, you may need to change your filters more frequently during such times. Having indoor pets and/or family members who smoke or have asthma or allergies may also warrant more frequent filter replacement.
Follow these steps when changing the furnace filters in your mobile home:
- Turn off the heating system’s power supply.
- Locate the filter.
- Open the grill holding the filter.
- Remove the filter and dispose of it.
- Install the new air filter following the arrows on its frame.
- Reinstall the grill and ensure it’s secure.
- Turn the furnace on.
If your furnace has a filter compartment, you’ll need to switch off the power to your unit and open the filter compartment to replace the filter. Before turning the power back on, you can also:
- Open the blower compartment panel and vacuum the chamber.
- Replace the condensation drain tube or clean it with bleach and water.
- Remove debris from the drain port using a pipe cleaner or soft-bristled brush.
