How to Tell If You Have Healthy Air Inside Your Home

By Angie Lyczkowski | Published: May 24, 2022

healthy airYou might not think too much about the air you’re breathing inside your home, but it can have a big impact on your quality of life. Having healthy air can help lower your and your family’s risk of getting sick and make your home feel more comfortable overall. If you’re wondering about your home’s indoor air quality (IAQ), keep the following information in mind.

When to Test for Healthy Air

When should you check the air quality in your home to make sure you have healthy air? You might decide to do so if you’re curious about how healthy it is or if you have reason to believe you might have poor IAQ. For example, you might smell mold or notice condensation on the walls in your home. You might also decide to test your air if you keep having health issues, such as respiratory symptoms. If you move into an older home, testing the air quality is a good idea, since these homes might contain materials that emit pollutants.

Monitor Your Air Quality

An air-quality monitor makes it easy to check for the presence of pollutants, toxins, and other harmful particles in your home. Some monitors might measure your home’s humidity level as well. The kinds of particles your monitor should check for depend on the type of home you live in. For older homes, you might look for a monitor that can detect radon, for example.

Do a Mold Test

Mold growth can trigger respiratory symptoms, headaches, and other health issues in some people. If you or anyone in your family is sensitive to mold, you should do a mold test to see if you have any in your home.

Use Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Carbon monoxide is a gas that can be hard for you to detect on your own. Install carbon monoxide detectors that will alert you if there’s ever a carbon monoxide leak in your home.

If you’re looking for additional ways to improve your home’s IAQ, please contact Energy 1 Heating and Air Conditioning. Our HVAC experts offer effective solutions for ensuring healthy air in your Lorain home.
