Northeast Ohio temperatures vary along the spectrum from cold winters to hot and muggy summers – with some surprise temperatures in between. Maybe you’ve been welcomed through your home’s door by uncomfortable temperatures? Those days can be relegated to the past with today’s generation of WiFi-enabled smart thermostats. Now you can just download an app to your smart device and gain instant access to your building’s HVAC system, almost anywhere you go.
The technology gets even more useful when combined with sensors placed throughout the house, and even outside of the building, alerting you to outdoor temperatures, too. WiFi thermostat apps make it so easy for you to view, track and even remotely adjust the settings on your HVAC system. Here are a few other perks of WiFi thermostats:
- Motion sensors detect and automatically adjust temperatures for maximum energy efficiency.
- Ability to download a Web report of energy savings
- Automatic self-updating for new software enhancements
- Filter changing reminders
Another very useful feature on modern WiFi thermostats is the option to bring a portable sensor with you to a particular room and have the system set the temperature to exactly what you’ve selected, regardless of the actual temperature at the thermostat. So, if you have a room where temperatures can vary widely from the rest of the house, just bring the comfort control sensor with you.
This improved technology comes with a word of caution, however. There are big differences between different models of WiFi thermostats regarding ease or difficulty of installation, features and operation. For example, some require a particular power cable be run from the heating system to the thermostat. Others can make programming a nightmare, while some require little programming at all. So, before deciding which WiFi thermostat is best for you, make sure you do some research online or consult an HVAC professional for advice.
