If you’re like many homeowners, you’re probably planning to have people visiting your house throughout the fall. We definitely don’t want to curtail you, but if you want to make these get-togethers as enjoyable as possible, here are a few HVAC considerations you need to keep in mind:
Schedule an Inspection of Your HVAC System
The last thing you want is for your HVAC system to break down or stop working properly while guests are in your home. Plus, you must consider the additional energy usage needed to make them feel comfortable. If it’s been a while since your regularly scheduled annual check-up, call a technician and have them make sure everything’s in good running order.
Switch Out the Air Filter
Your HVAC system’s air filter does a fantastic job at keeping contaminants from entering your home’s air, but it fills up with dust and debris after 1-3 months, depending on a multitude of factors. Before guests start coming in, check the filter and pick up a replacement if it’s dirty.
Lower the Temperature
If you’re using the oven or stove to cook food for your guests, the added heat coming from the appliance means that you can lower the thermostat a bit — a few degrees should suffice. This will help decrease your energy costs while ensuring that the extra people in your home are kept as comfortable as possible.
Install a UV Light System
Maintaining superb air quality when you have guests over should always be a top priority. One extremely effective way of eliminating germs, viruses, and other sorts of contaminants is to install a UV light system within your HVAC unit. This will ensure that your air remains clean when you’re enjoying the company of others.
