There are ways you can save on your home’s high water bills by taking some simple, easy and effective steps:
- Go with the low flow: Where do you use most of your water? In your kitchen and bathrooms. Installing low-flow faucets and showerheads is easy to do, and can lower the water coming out of faucets/showerheads by up to two gallons per minute.
- High-efficiency appliances: Dishwashers, clothes washers, dryers – we use them almost daily. But constant use can dramatically increase your water usage. Replace your old appliances with high-efficiency models and use the cold-water option to save on high water bills. Only wash full loads of dishes or clothes.
- Twice as nice: Your toilet uses lots of water. By installing a low-flow or dual-flush toilet, you can reduce the per-flush volume of water substantially each time.
- Timing is everything: Hot water is soothing and relaxing. However, waiting for that water to warm up can waste a lot of water. By adding a recirculating pump, thermostat, motion sensor or timer, you can move hot water to your showerheads and faucets much quicker, reducing the water, and money, that swirls down the drain.
- Save your rain: Use a rain barrel to collect rain from your downspouts, and then use it for watering your lawn and garden and other outside purposes. You can still keep your lawn healthy while reducing your overall water usage.
