Have you decided to take a break from the hustle and bustle, and head out on a spring vacation this year? To ensure that you come back to your home exactly as you left it, we would suggest that you prepare your home for the vacation by following these quick tips:
Leave on a Light or Two
You don’t want to run up your energy bills, but leaving on a light or two is a great way to keep potential criminals away by making people think you’re still at home. If you’re going to be away for an extended time, however, it might be a good idea to put them on a timer.
Turn Off the Thermostat
Since no one will be at home during your fantastic spring vacation, there’s absolutely no reason to run your heating or cooling system on a regular basis. The easy solution here is to either adjust the temperature accordingly or switch off the thermostat entirely. Either way, you’ll save energy and money.
Switch Off the Water
Returning from a spring vacation to a flooded home due to a burst water pipe is always a possibility, not to mention a complete nightmare. Switching off the water valves will prevent any problems from happening while you’re gone.
Hold Your Mail and Other Deliveries
It’s important to look like you’re still at home in order to deter potential burglars. If you have newspapers, mail, or anything else stacking up, that’s a dead giveaway. Have all of those things held until you return.
Don’t Discuss Plans on Social Media
Yes, social media is fantastic and you want everyone to know about your wonderful spring vacation. But nefarious types could be looking, too, so keep your plans on the “down low” until you get back… and then you can post pictures and tell people all about it.
