Although you may be new to the concept of ductless mini-split heating and cooling systems, these specialized heat pump units have been used extensively in many countries around the world for more than 50 years. Starting in Japan back in the 1960s as an efficient and economical alternative to conventional forced-air or boiler systems, mini-splits’ popularity has increased in the U.S. significantly in the last two decades. A ductless mini-split setup might be the perfect choice for installation in your Northeast Ohio home, especially if you’re adding a room or replacing existing baseboard heating in your current home. Mini-splits are ideal for these applications.
Ductless mini-split systems offer many advantages when compared to traditional central HVAC units, including:
- Since these systems require no ductwork, they are easier and less expensive to install.
- Mini-splits are quiet, provide easily controlled, comfortable temperatures and require minimal maintenance.
- Systems do double duty, capable of providing both heating and cooling, and one outside condensing unit can be configured to condition the air in several separate zones, each with its own air handler with individual temperature controls.
If your home was constructed incorporating the use of baseboard heating, there is no existing ductwork. Installing a ductless mini-split unit will allow you to upgrade your home’s heating and cooling to a level comparable to that produced by a conventional central HVAC system. This is all without the expense or trouble of having to install a ductwork network for distribution of the conditioned air. This makes satisfying your home’s heating/cooling requirements easier, quicker, less expensive and with considerably less disruption to your living space.
If you’re considering doing away with your electric baseboard heating system, that’s probably a wise decision. These systems are inefficient, expensive to operate, do nothing to improve your home’s indoor air quality and, being installed under the windows, waste considerable energy as heat naturally escapes the home. Ductless mini-splits solve all these problems.
