Fall Furnace Maintenance in Ohio: Here’s What to Expect

With summer drawing to a close in Northeast Ohio, it’s time to think about fall furnace maintenance. By scheduling your appointment now, you’ll have a much better chance of getting a timely appointment than if you wait till the snow is blowing in from the lake. Considering our recent cold winters in the Elyria-Lorain-Cleveland area, you definitely don’t want to have a furnace break down in the dead of winter and not be able to find a repair company. 

What will the HVAC Tech do during a fall furnace maintenance appointment?

You may never have had a fall or annual checkup on your furnace and don’t know what to expect. Or maybe you didn’t pay attention to the checklist of tasks included in your last furnace tune-up. It is more than just a cleaning of dust and debris. The tech will inspect all parts of the furnace, as well as all external parts such as ducts, the thermostat, etc. The tech will look for worn parts or leaks, check belts and filters, and replace them if necessary. He or she will clean the entire heating system and remove dirt build-up. Seals will be checked and replaced if needed. The fresh air intakes should be checked for blockages and cleaned out. Tests should make sure burners ignite and burn properly, as well as an amp draw test performed. The condensate drain as well as the trap need to be cleaned out, too.

Many of these adjustments, cleanings and tests involve the internal workings of your furnace and should be completed by a professional HVAC tech.
