Controlling Dust Throughout Your Home and HVAC System

By Angie Lyczkowski | Published: February 21, 2017

Controlling Dust Throughout Your Home and HVAC SystemIf you want to keep the air clean in your Lorain-area home, controlling dust must be one of your priorities. What are the best ways to do that? Luckily for you, we’ve taken the time to compile some of our favorite techniques.

Remove Your Shoes

At this very moment, there’s a good chance that the carpet in your home is filled with dust and bacteria, which often comes from being tracked inside on your shoes. If you and your guests remove your shoes when you come inside, this will greatly reduce the amount of dust you’re spreading around.

Replace Your Carpets

Taking your shoes off will reduce the amount of dust in your carpet, but we suggest that you take it a step further by replacing it. Instead, go with a flooring that’s easier to maintain, such as tile or laminate. Dust won’t be captured by fibers and cleaning will be a breeze.

Vacuum Regularly

If you insist on keeping your carpet, vacuum every few days with a unit that’s equipped with a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter. This will help keep those darn dust bunnies under control. And don’t filter yourself to carpet — you can vacuum other types of flooring in your home, too.

Change Your Air Filter Every Few Months

Your HVAC system’s air filter will stop a huge amount of dust from being distributed through your home. After a while, though, the filter will become filled and basically stop working. Replacement every 1-3 months, as needed, will keep things running smoothly.

Forget the Feather Duster

In many households, a feather duster is a mainstay that owners reach for every time it’s time to dust. Unfortunately, even the best feather dusters spread around the dust instead of capturing it. We suggest that you use microfiber cloths instead.
