With winter in Northeast Ohio well underway, it’s long past time to focus on your ailing furnace. You’ll be making a mistake if you don’t enlist the federal Energy Star program to help you decide which heating equipment is right for your home. And now, thanks to the new Most Efficient label, your choice will be easier than ever.
Changing with the times
If you’ve had the need to shop for heating or cooling equipment, or a variety of other appliances, in the past 20 years, you’ve surely come across the Energy Star label. Designed to help consumers identify energy-using products and equipment that are among the most energy efficient, the label has assisted millions of people with their purchasing decisions.
But times change, and standards in energy efficiency must change, too. Due to increasing efficiency across product lines in recent years, the Energy Star label seemingly has been everywhere you turn. In order to keep up, consequently, a new standard was launched: the Most Efficient program.
A cut above the rest
The goal of Energy Star’s Most Efficient program is to separate equipment that provides the utmost energy efficiency when compared to other models. In order to be rewarded with such an honor, a model of heating or cooling equipment must meet the highest criteria. Furnaces, for example, must have an AFUE rating of 97 percent or higher in order to be considered. This helps ensure that consumers are getting the most energy-efficient models on the market, the ones that stand out from the crowd.
Finding out which models earn the Most Efficient label is much easier than you might think. Point your Internet browser toward the Energy Star website and you’ll be given access to the list of Most Efficient models, further criteria, and other useful information.
