If you didn’t schedule HVAC service for your furnace during the fall, don’t worry; you can schedule HVAC service anytime, though there are a few benefits to scheduling early maintenance such as getting your system ready for service before the long winter settles into northeast Ohio. The key to benefitting from HVAC maintenance, however, lies in regularity: Schedule HVAC service every year, and your furnace (or other heating equipment) will operate efficiently on a consistent basis, and keep your home comfortable throughout the winter. You’ll extend its useful operating life too.
Once you make an appointment for HVAC service, take a little time to prepare yourself and your home by:
- Assessing the heating system’s performance. Are you satisfied with how it’s operating? Are your heating bills surprisingly high? Doe the system keep your home comfortably heated? Note any problems you’ve experienced, and be sure to talk about them with your heating technician.
- Locating key components. The technician may need to access multiple related components of the furnace or heat pump, such as the circuit breaker, thermostat and indoor/outdoor units.
- Finding the model number for your equipment, should the technician need to order a part or replace a filter.
- Making the equipment easy to access. If you store a lot of items in the basement, create a clear area near the furnace so the technician can move around and have room to bring in tools that he or she may need.
- Gathering payment. Know ahead of time what forms of payment the technician can accept.
- Clearing your schedule to be present during the service call, so that you can ask questions but also let the technician into your home.
Taking the time to prepare for an HVAC service call makes the appointment go smoother, ensuring that you get your money’s worth.
