Cutting Expenses Isn’t Worth It If You’re Cutting Corners to Service Your HVAC Unit

By Angie Lyczkowski | Published: March 12, 2020

There’s been a trend in recent years of looking for people online to perform certain services that in the past had only been done by professionals. That’s perfectly fine when you’re looking for a ride to a friend’s house or you need to have groceries delivered, but finding a random person to service or repair your heating and cooling equipment can spell trouble. To make sure you’re taken care of, we’ve put together a quick list of tips that will make hiring an HVAC technician easy:

Ask for Referrals

If you’re overwhelmed by the sheer number of technicians out there, then getting the opinion of someone you know is a great way to start. Ask a friend, family member, or co-worker who they used the last time their home needed service and how satisfied they were.

Investigate the Technician’s History

Checking a contractor’s history on their website will tell you information such as how the company was founded and how many years they’ve been in business. You can also investigate their history by doing an online search for the company, including looking on the Better Business Bureau’s website.

Check Online Reviews

There’s a very good chance that any perspective HVAC technician will have online reviews written about them on sites such as Yelp. You can also look on Facebook, where people often voice their grievances, and see how the company responded to any negative experiences.

Check for NATE Certification

NATE certification is an industry standard for determining the skills and professionalism of an HVAC technician. This training must be redone every five years, which means the technicians will always know the latest industry technology and techniques.

Get Everything in Writing

Whenever you have your home or business serviced by a professional technician, be sure to get estimates or service changes in writing. Any responsible technician will insist on doing so in order to protect both you and them.

To receive more expert advice on hiring an HVAC technician, or if you have any concerns involving home comfort, reach out to the professionals at Energy 1 Heating & Air Conditioning. We’ve been servicing Lorain and the surrounding communities for more than 35 years.
