There are many types of dangerous pollutants and chemicals that can unwittingly enter our air and cause illnesses and, in rare instances, death. One way that you can keep your household safe is with an indoor air quality test. Today, we’re going to explain how to perform an indoor air quality test so your home’s air is protected.
Perform an Indoor Air Quality Test by Using a Monitor
First off, head to the store and purchase an indoor air quality monitor. These devices detect various elements such as humidity, temperature, airborne particulate matter, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Look for a monitor that lists specific pollutants that are of concern to you so your indoor air quality test looks for what you want it to.
Set Up Mold Tests in a Few Rooms
Black mold can cause severe health issues, but any type of mold can cause respiratory problems. Mold tests are very easy to use. You can pick up a set at your local hardware store and set them up in a few rooms around your home. They’re extremely easy to use. Sometimes they’ll need to be sent to a lab for analysis, but the results will be sent to you by email the same day the kit arrives.
Test the Radon Levels in Your Home
Radon is highly dangerous and can cause lung cancer if you’re exposed for long periods of time. It can get into your home by seeping through your foundation from the rocks and soil below. The testing kits are a bit pricey, but they’re definitely something you shouldn’t skip if you want to ensure the safety of your household.
Install a CO Detector on Each Level
Carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer for a reason. Even though additives can help people detect a leak, this isn’t foolproof. To prevent illness or death, install a CO detector on each level of your home. Be sure to set them up away from any source of gas such as a stove or furnace to help prevent false alarms.
